Wow, I’m so impressed with the work that Magento has been doing behind the scenes. It’s really exciting to see them partnering with YouGov to investigate what’s driving customer retention in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
I was particularly intrigued by the fact that price is not the biggest factor for driving repeat custom. This goes against everything I’ve heard from other people in the industry, who seem to think that offering lower prices is the key to retaining customers. But Magento’s research suggests that there are other strategies that are more effective.
I was also surprised to learn that 1 in 4 customers will abandon their basket if free returns are not offered as standard. This is a huge percentage, and it makes me wonder how many potential sales were lost because of this. It just goes to show how important it is to offer free returns as part of your customer retention strategy.
